Moldova to suspend visa passes for Romanian citizens

The interim president of the Republic of Moldova, Mihai Ghimpu, abolished the regime of visas for the citizens of Romania.

According to Mihai Ghimpu, starting from Friday, the Romanian citizens will be able to cross the border to Moldova without a visa.
The Moldavian interim president said, two days ago, he would suspend the Government’s decision regarding the visa regime for the Romanian citizens, estimating the red-tape issues would be handled by Friday. The measure will come into effect right away.
Former president of Moldova, Vladimir Voronin, decided to introduce the system of visa passes for the Romanian citizens, after the protests launched in April 2009, shortly after the parliamentarian elections that stirred mass manifestations.
