Artistul R&B canadian The Weeknd a primit 16 nominalizări la premiile Billboard 2016, urmat de compatriotul său, Justin Bieber, cu 11 menţiuni.
The Weeknd, pe numele real Abęl Makkonen Tesfaye, conduce în topul nominalizărilor la Billboard Music Awards 2016. În vârstă de 26 de ani, cântăreţul luptă la 16 categorii, inclusiv Cel mai bun artist al anului, Cel mai bun artist R&B şi Cel mai bun cântăreţ.
Canadianul Justin Bieber (22 de ani) se bucură la ediţia de anul acesta de 11 nominalizări, în timp ce Taylor Swift (26 de ani) şi Adele (27 de ani) au primit câte opt menţiuni, potrivit BBC.
David Bowie a fost nominalizat pentru ultimul său album, „Blackstar“, lansat în ziua în care artistul britanic a împlinit vârsta de 69 de ani şi cu două zile înainte să moară, pe 10 ianuarie. Gala Billboard Music Awards va fi prezentată de cântăreţii Ludacris şi Ciara şi se va desfăşura la Las Vegas, pe data de 22 mai.
