The Romanian former football plazer Gheorghe Popescu received Tuesday a certificate attested he never collaborated with the country’s communist-era political police, stated Mircea Dinescu, one of CNSAS members.

"Mr. Popescu addressed our institution legally and formally and asked to be checked. We took the legal path and we decided, in the meeting we had on Tuesday, that Mr. Popescu did not collaborate with the Romanian Securitate.
His certificate will be drafted and sent to him, will be posted on the website and can be contested within the legal term, as it was with all other cases our institution has analyzed," Dinescu said.
