Romanian government to cut 23 % of the public sector staff by 2015

The Romanian public sector will cut 326,000 jobs and reduce the staff from 1.394 million to 1.068 million employees by 2015, the deadline for the enforcement of the unitary pay law, said the Romanian finance minister Gheorghe Pogea Tuesday.
The number of public sector employees will have to drop to 1.244 million in 2011, 1.207 million in 2012 and 1.170 million employees in the following year. In 2014, the country’s public sector will have 1.135 employees.
In 2015, when the unitary pay law will have been reinforced within the public sector,, the number of employees will drop to 1.068 million.
The representatives of the Romanian government, unionists and the employers’ associations will discuss, on Tuesday, the final form of the unitary pay draft law for the public sector.
