The European Commission requested, on Thursday, information regarding the Romanian legislation for car pollution taxes, informs Agerpres.

The Commission thinks the Romanian legislation, according to which the pollution tax is suspended for certain motor vehicles and increased for other second hand cars coming from other European countries, might discriminate second hand cars and protect national industry.
The request took the form of a "formal notice" - the first stage of the infringement procedure laid down in Article 226 of the EC Treaty. If the Commission does not receive a satisfactory response within two months, it may proceed with the second stage of the procedure and ultimately send the case to the European Court of Justice.
