Left in a barley field by the presidential helicopter, Ceausescu had desperately searched for a ride to pick him up from the desert.
On December 22, 1989, one hour after leaving the CC head office, the “steerman” and the “academician” were abandoned on a wild desert, south-east of Salcuta village, near Titu.
“Unshaven, scared and in a trebling voice” this is how villagers and neighborhood farmers remember the fugitive.
The two left after 23 minutes, with a car run by doctor Deca.
