A EUR48 million debt to U.S. constructor Bechtel to be paid in July

The Romanian government will pay a EUR48 million debt to U.S. constructor Bechtel in July, for costs on Transylvania Highway works, announced the Romanian prime minister, Emil Boc.

"These are current expenses that have to be paid and we’ll bring them back on schedule in July. We can handle the situation. We are talking about a EUR48 million debt” Boc said.

The prime minister assured Michael Mix, manager of Bechtel and responsible with the building of Transilvania highway,  the company shouldn’t worry about the government paying that debt.

According to an agreement concluded in February by Bechtel and the Romanian Ministry of Transports, the U.S. constructor is to complete 42 kilometers of the highway, this year, and the Ministry of Transports to pay EUR420 million in exchange.
