In 1968, the Hong Kong flu killed one million people. It was the last before the one that started yesterday, caused by the swine flu.
According to the Romanian Explanatory Dictionary, the word “pandemic” means “an epidemic extending on a very big territory”.
The World Health Organization raises flu pandemic to the highest level, announcing the world is officially in the grip of the first global flu pandemic. WHO officials say the decision was taken not because the virus is any more lethal, but because its spread is considered unstoppable.
In Romania, there are 11 people contaminated with A(H1N1) virus, while at global level there are 27.737 people. 141 people died do far because of the swine influenza.
