The European Commission presented, today, in Brussels, the report of monitoring the Romanian justice, the fifth report of this type since the beginning of the negotiations for the EU adherence.
One of the report’s conclusions was the reform process of the judicial system should not be politicized, and that there’s a need for a political consensus so that the Romanian justice could function independently and produce quick and efficient decisions.
The Romanian minister of Justice, Cătălin Predoiu, said the report’s main conclusions were the Romanian government, including the Ministry of Justice and the Public Ministry, made progresses, eliminating the perspective of activating the safeguard provision.
The European Commission feels Romania and Bulgaria should continue to be monitored, Commission spokesman Johanes Laitenberger said,on Wednesday.
The report indicates conditions are not met for triggering safeguard clauses, but monitoring will continue under the CMV and the Commission’s next report will be issued in the summer of 2010.
