Romania, a torment for Kim Jong-ll’s students

Indoctrination: Studying in the Romanian city of Ploiesti, ten North-Korean students say they are disappointed with “the consumption society” and can’t wait to go back home, under the regime of Kim Jong-ll.
The North-Korean students in Romania are disgusted by the Romanian capitalism. Two years after the students’ arrival in Ploiesti, they can only think about one thing: the return to their home country.
Disgusted by the capitalist landscape offered by supermarkets and crushed by poverty – they live with a EUR 65 scholarship per month -, North-Korean students miss the free school books and endless parks of their country. In Ploiesti, they are terrified by the city traffic and complain the Romanian students have been joking on their accounts and swearing at them.
If they were to send a message home to the loved ones in North Korea this would be extremely simple: “Work well there, according to our president”.
The ten North-Koreans are good students, they have good grades. They are, let’s say, more motivated than others here said Vlad Ulmanu, rector of the University of Petrol-Gases, Ploiesti.
