The first notice received by the Intelligence was signed in 1985, after the game AS Monaco-Universitatea Craiova.
“Before the game against Monaco team they made me sin a paper. It was something general, about my commitment of defending national interest (…) I was not afraid because it implied the national interest”. This is the reaction of Gheorghe Popescu against the informative notes of his file of collaboration of the Intelligence service.
The former football player admitted he had signed ‘a document ‘with Ceausescu’s secret police.
Nevertheless, he implied a ‘deceitfulness’ that could compromise him as a potential candidate of the management of the Romanian Football Federation.
