Azerbaijan offered to supply Romania with 7.3 billion cubic meter of natural gas to be transported via Nabucco project, amounting to nearly one quarter of the pipeline’s planned annual capacity, people working for the Economy Ministry, said Vitaliy Baylarbayov, vice-president of SOCAR Co. at Black Sea Energy and Economic Forum.
The ministry's state secretary Tudor Serban said that Romania was offered the option to receive 7.3 bcm of natural gas via Nabucco, declining to name the country that forwarded the offer. However, Serban said the offer is premised by Nabucco pipeline being up and running before the rival South Stream project.
Romania has carried talks with Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan and signed several protocols on energy cooperation, over the past few months.
