Alcatel-Lucent to cut 564 jobs in Romania

The biggest multinational in Banat region announced the company will cut 564 employees, a strategy that is part of a extended program aiming to reduce over 4,500 jobs in Europe, transmitted Mediafax today, citing AFP.
French telecommunications equipment giant Alcatel-Lucent will cut its 26,000 strong European workforce by a sixth this year and next as the company restructures, a union source said on Wednesday, according to AFP.
Philippe Saint-Aubain, who sits on the company's works committee as its secretary, said France will lose 1,374 jobs, Germany 773 and Romania 564, being the worst affected regions.
More than 4,500 jobs will be cut or outsourced," he said, adding that workers were already being let go in several countries such as Britain, Belgium and the Netherlands.
