Writer Herta Muller winner of 2009 Nobel Prize for Literature
2009 Nobel Prize for Literature is awarded to Romanian-born German writer Herta Muller, the Nobel committee announced Thursday on its official website.
The Noble committee decided to award this year's prize for literature Herta Muller, the writer who, with the concentration of poetry and the frankness of prose, depicts the landscape of the dispossessed.
2008 Nobel Prize for Literature was awardede to French writer Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clezio.
This year's Nobel prize winners were:
- American researchers Elizabeth H. Blackburn, Carol W. Greider and Jack W. Szostak for physiology or medicine, for discovering how chromosomes are protected against aging by telomeres and the enzyme telomerase.
- Research Charles K. Kao, Willard S. Boyle and George E. Smith, the fathers of fiber optics and digital imaging, for physics
- Researchers Venkatraman Ramakrishnan, Thomas A. Steitz and Ada E. Yonath for uncovering the structure of the ribosome, for chemistry
