The business of being a "bodyguard"

A number of guarding and protecting companies obtain from the local authorities contracts of hundreds of thousand euros for the parks’ protection.

Paid with lots of money, companies responsible with the protection of the passers-by hire retired men or young men with no specialization.

In March, Bucharest Administration of Lakes, Parks and Recreation Areas stired a huge scandal because of a contract according to which it used to pay EUR 150,000 monthly to a protection company. In parallel, the same types of deals were made at the level of sectors.

The Administration of the Public Domain (ADP) of the sector 2 earmarked EUR 1.4 million without VAT tax for the security of some parks. Two security companies, Ares Guard and Protstar, sent their bodyguards on the basis of their agreements obtained after direct negotiations. But, searching for them, “Adevarul” reporters found just a couple of old men in uniforms or young men making tourism with their pants tucked up. The third ADP contractant are the Police Community Support Officers, who received EUR 140,000. All contracts are available during a year.
