The number of swine flu infections in Romania reached 1,001, with 94 new cases confirmed in the last 24 hours, according to the National Center of Communicable Diseases Prevention and Control.

Three high-schools in Bucharest have been shut down so far.

Starting from next Monday, antivirals specific to the swine flu treatment will be used only for the severe cases, the mild infections being treated with usual medicines, not Tamiflu.

The first swine flu contamination in Romania occurred on May 23, on a young woman who had returned from the United States.

On November 26 begins the national vaccination campaign against swine flu. The first to get vaccinated will be the pupils, the students and the medical staff. Romanian authorities will buy 500,000 doses of vaccine from abroad for the children between 6 months and 6 years old.
