The Romanian president Traian Băsescu stated today on the debate regarding education law he was disappointed with “the attitude of those who elaborated in just a few weeks a Code of education, but that he didn’t want to support a certain formula of the system of education laws. He said education is a strategic sector in Romania, which must be reformed now.

Despite of the conflicts, for the first time we’re facing an absolute acceptance of the necessity of new laws within the educational system (…) The state’s modernization and Romania’s complete adherence to the European Union can’t be possible without a radical change of the Romanian educational system (…) It is delusive to think we can achieve performance without a performing educational system, said the Romanian head of state.
Băsescu underlined that the Romanian school can’t afford to keep on fabricating jobless people: We just can’t continue reproducing receipts that turned out to be ineffective.
