Less than a month after being appointed, the Romanian Health minister Adrian Streinu-Cercel resigned, on Tuesday. He is currently at the Parliament head office, offering explanations about the outbreak of A/H1N1 virus in Romania.
Streinu-Cercel said he resigned the position of state secretary within the Ministry of Health, with no further details.
The number of A/H1N1 flu contamination cases in Romania has been increasing quite quickly lately and Streinu-Cercel has been under intense public scrutiny.
Streinu-Cercel are being heard by the Chamber of Deputies' health committee Tuesday regarding measures the ministry is taking to fight the epidemic.
Romania has registered 555 cases of AH1N1 infections since May, and 174 of them are undergoing treatment, while the rest are cured, Streinu-Cercel said Monday.
All hospitals have been put under quarantine in order to help prevent the spread of the swine flu virus.
