World Academy of Records included, yesterday, officially, Mugur Isarescu in the gallery of world records, because of this longevity as a manager of the central bank.

The Romanian Central Bank governor, Mugur Isarescu, aged 60, has occupied the position of governor for 19 years now, setting the world record of the Longest Serving Central Bank Governor, World Records Academy, the leading international organization which certifies world records, reported on its website Thursday.

Constantin Mugurel Isărescu was born on August 1st 1949 in Drăgăşani city, Vâlcea. He graduated the Faculty of Foreign Trade at the Bucharest Economical Studies Academz in 1971.

Isarescu began his coordination of the Romanian central bank in September 1990. He was Romania’s prime minister between December 1999 and November 2000 when he returned to the headship of the central bank.

Throughout 15 years of leadership at the National Bank of Romania, Isarescu managed to create and maintain a mysterious aura around the policies of the central bank and many pointed out that the agenda of the Bank remained independent from any ruling power.
