Rapperul Kendrick Lamar a fost marele câştigător al galei MTV Video Music Awards 2017, fiind recompensat cu şase trofee.
Rapperul Kendrick Lamar a reuşit să traducă în victorii şase dintre cele opt nominalizări la MTV VMA 2017, inclusiv la categoriile Cel mai bun videoclip al anului („Humble“) şi Cel mai bun artist hip-hop.
Cântăreţul britanic Ed Sheeran a fost desemnat Artistul Anului, iar Taylor Swift, care a fost una dintre absenţele notabile, a câştigat premiul pentru Cea mai bună colaborare – „I Don't Wanna Live Forever“, cu Zayn Malik.
Cântăreaţa americană Pink, în vârstă de 37 de ani, a primit Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award – cel mai prestigios premiu decernat în industria videoclipurilor muzicale, acesta reflectând impactul pe care un artist îl are nu doar asupra muzicii, ci şi asupra culturii pop, modei, filmului şi filantropiei, potrivit News.ro. Pe scenă, Pink a ţinut un discurs despre frumuseţe şi toleranţă, adresat fiicei sale în vârstă de şase ani, Willow, care s-a aflat în public.
MTV VMA 2017, prezentată de cântăreaţa americană Katy Perry, a marcat şi o premieră în istoria galei: numele trofeului a fost schimbat din „Moonman“ în „Moon Person“, aceasta fiind un nou pas făcut de MTV pentru a elimina barierele de gen din industria de divertisment.
„De ce ar trebui să fie neapărat un bărbat? Ar putea fi un bărbat, ar putea fi o femeie, ar putea fi transgender sau ar putea fi o persoană nonconformistă“, a explicat pentru Los Angeles Times preşedintele MTV Chris McCarthy.
Evenimentul a prezentat şi probleme sociale. Şase militari transsexuali au păşit pe covorul roşu al galei, iar un grup de supravieţuitori ai unor tentative de sinucidere au stat în linişte pe scenă în timpul piesei „1-800 273-8255“, care reprezintă numărul liniei naţionale de prevenire a sinuciderilor, notează şi News.ro.
