NATO is obsolete in a historic sense since it was founded in response to the former USSR's global influence and perceived global threat when founded back in 1949 at the height of the Cold War. Such premise ceased to exist in 1991 when the ex-USSR was dissolved as a state entity. Nevertheless NATO took advantage of the new situation and continued its efforts to expand as an organization by using Muslim terrorism, so-called Russian expansionism or any other unilaterally declared source of menace as an excuse to reshaping geopolitics to its own liking and political-economic interests. So the only rationale for its continued existence is to keep an ever changing World in check while trying to stifle particularly China as well as India or any other emerging economic power. Russia is another story. They would love to be accepted as a NATO member equal in stature with Germany or alike but of course no such courtesy will ever be extended to them and that is a major mistake because it only accentuates their isolation and/or pushes them to seek alliances with China to counter the West's predominance.
...and to slowly drift into authoritarian neofascism with serious consequences as demonstrated in their quest to destabilize American and European politics with varying degrees of success as recently seen in their interference in the US presidential elections of 2016, the Brexit vote, presidential elections of France in 2017 and much more.
Your arguments against NATO are not sustainable. Your assessment that NATO uses Muslim terrorism to reshape and expand its influence is an offence against all those innocent who lost their lives due to terrorist acts. The memory of those soldiers who died fighting terrorism is stained by your filthy words. Your analysis on the expansion of Russia, which sparked civil war in Ukraine and is fuelling ethnic hatred in Eastern Europe, North America and the African continent, is missing. Your conclusion that Russia would love to be part of NATO is incorrect. They don't like Western culture and mentality; they will never forget that this way of thinking, with its good and bad outcome, reshaped Europe (especially after 1989), North America, and the countries of the Southern Hemisphere and lead to the fall of the Soviet Union.
tovarășe rădulescu, It isn't my fault that subtleties of the English language are beyond your grasp. I would be more specific as to why you misconstrued my words if thought it did any good.. As for the ethnic hatred in Eastern Europe it doesn't need any additional fueling. It's been there since times immemorial as is the case with the backward Wallachian tribes and other mutts.
Mr. Ciriiti, are you telling us that China could ever trust Russia and vice-versa? Get real, sir.
They have recently signed a very significant and far-reaching economic agreement part from a serious and substantial thawing occurred since the days of Chairman Mao. Besides, that is not the essence of my comment just a passing detail. I don't traffic in Eastern European-style provincial innuendo or any other form of intellectually weak arguments. So...get real dude, facts talk, bullshit walks.
